As of July 2026, I can now boast that I have obtained sole legal custody of Noelle and permission to relocate with her (and relinquish jurisdiction to the appropriate court system) here in NJ, where I now live. My daughter and I have been reunified with family, and she will be starting third grade next week in the same school district I attended as a child. This is a great blessing after seven years of custody hell.

I am deeply grateful to the JASON Project (Judicial Assistance Serving Our Neighborhood) for the encouragement, support, and assistance they provided to me during one of the most difficult periods of my life.

In 2024, I found myself facing a PFA that was based on false allegations and resulted in a painful separation from my daughter (not too dissimilar from what happened recently to Secretary Pete Buttigieg). Navigating the court system under those circumstances was overwhelming, and the JASON Project provided much-needed support at a time when I felt especially vulnerable and uncertain about what lay ahead.

The service I valued most was their willingness and ability to accompany me to court and observe the proceedings. Simply having someone there who understood the process and could provide support made an enormous difference. I never forgot the encouragement they offered when I needed it most.

Today, my circumstances are dramatically different: I have since been awarded sole legal custody of my daughter, following years of difficult litigation and the court’s consideration of the conduct and circumstances involved in our case. Looking back at how far we have come makes me even more appreciative of the people and organizations who helped me through the hardest stages of that journey.

I am sincerely thankful for the work they do for people navigating frightening and emotionally difficult experiences within the court system.
